Sydenham Substation

The Sydenham Substation is located on the corner of Kinfauns and 11th ave in Sydenham. It is a Cape Dutch style building, and most are surprised to find out it is a City Power substation. The substation is unfortunately not maintained by City Power and the building has fallen into disrepair, and the 'garden' became over grown with weeds.
After many calls logged with City Power and JRA, the SRAJ decided to clean up the substation. We asked for donations to paint the substation, and raise some money and Jacks Paint in Highlands North kindly donated 100 litres of paint. We cleared the weeds and sprayed poison, and then the painting started. Unfortunately, we were ripped off by the contractor, Lino Battani, who not only took the money and most of the paint for himself, leaving the painting unfinished, but he also convinced a local contracting company to paint the substation as it was a 'community project with no payment'.

A year later and we have again cleared the weeds and are planning to have the painting completed at our committee's personal expense. All our attempts to contact Lino Battani to complete the painting have been ignored.

We implore residents not to use the Substation as a dumping ground, we recently had a tenant, who is known to us, dump his old jacuzzi there during his renovations. JMPD was requested to assist in this matter, and Pikitup has subsequently removed it.

If you see people dumping, urinating, defecating, drinking or trespassing on the property please call CAP to assist, and report it to info@sraj.co.za or @SRAJAdmin on Telegram

Update Sept 2018.
The SRAJ committee has funded the repainting of the substation back to its original white, and has cleared the garden area. We are trying to convince City Power and/or JRA to pave or tar the garden area to make the substation look neater and make it easier to maintain.
